Our client asked us to design a custom crush production facility and a small winery hospitality building on two neighboring parcels.

Vinovate is designed to address the need for high-quality custom production in the Willamette Valley – a region with a growing number of small, start-up wineries and lacking in high-end custom crush facilities with the facilities and services necessary to craft high-quality wines.

The 24,000-square-foot facility is designed with production and storage capacity to service 10 to 15 smaller wine-makers, with a focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the cool climate varietals most prevalent in the region. Equipped with its own lab, offices, conference rooms and break rooms for employees, Vinovate also includes state-of-the-art cooling systems and its own bottling line, a luxury for small winemakers. Flexible interior spaces accommodate the smaller, movable tanks generally used for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The prefabricated metal building, composed of insulated metal panels from Kingspan, is efficient and insulated using a self-blended hybrid insulation core that offers high performance with a reduced carbon footprint. A full solar array provides for a large percentage of the winery’s energy needs. Large clerestory windows provide natural ventilation and light to the tank area, enabling employees to work without artificial light for much of the day.
